Reading Co-operative Bank Donates to RMHS Robotics Team

READING, Mass. - Reading Co-operative Bank recently donated $1,000 to the RMHS robotics team, the “Robockets.”  The team just completed their second year as a competitive high school robotics team. The team, led by Head Coach & Lead Mentor Chuck Strout, is made up of 35 RMHS students and is mentored by several volunteers from local technology companies.

The donation from RCB, along with others, allows the team to compete in the FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) district and regional events, which culminate in an annual national championship. The competition is organized by FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology), a New Hampshire-based company founded by Dean Kamen.

The FIRST Robotics Competition “combines the excitement of sport with science and technology to create a unique varsity Sport for the Mind™. FRC helps high-school-aged young people discover the rewarding and engaging world of innovation and engineering,” according to their website.

The Robockets team enjoyed tremendous success this year! The team alliance won top honors at the Bryant University district competition where 39 teams competed. The team then competed in the Northeastern University district event, ranking 24th overall. Finally the team was invited to the New England Championships where the team placed 35 out of 56 robots.

“We are very excited that the Robockets team is doing so well; the team is excited to participate in different competitions, and support from Reading Co-operative Bank, makes all this possible. We could not have succeeded without their support.” says Stephen Ryan, representative from the team.
