Today is Tuesday, April 19. Here are five things you need to know:
Well, it is April after all. The weather was nice enough to stay dry for the 115th Boston Marathon yesterday, but, today, we’ll probably see some rain. Weather Underground predicts that Reading could see rain at any hour today. Other than that, temperatures will stay warm and winds will be mild.
Reading baseball scores a win over Watertown. The RMHS boys baseball team scored a commanding 9-5 win over Watertown this weekend. Our sports editor Matt Tempesta was at the game and captured video of the action. Click on the image in the upper-right hand corner to see it.
Wear your pajamas to the library. The Reading Public Library will host a for 4- to 8-year olds tonight.
Your choice of trivia. Both and will host trivia contests tonight. If that’s your thing, pick one and go.
The day that yesterday’s big tradition started. On this day in 1897, fifteen runners took on the first Boston Marathon. The race was shorter than it is today—24.5 miles compared to the now-standard 26.2 miles—and only ten of the competitors completed the course. Also, no women were allowed to compete. While much of that has changed today, the tradition remains.
