Today is Wednesday, July 18. Here are five things you need to know today:

1. The weather. The temperature will reach 91 degrees in the afternoon and drop to 66 in the evening. There is a chance of scattered thunder showers.

2. Jim Rice Memorial Softball Tournament. Peabody firefighters are organizing yet another tribute to their fallen brother Jim Rice that will also benefit his family -- this time a softball tournament Aug. 18-19. The tournament is open to teams of firefighters, police and EMS personnel. Games will be played at  and the O'Connor fields in Peabody. 3. Reading Board of Assessors. The at  at 2 p.m.
