North Reading Mom Starting Mom and Tots Meet-up Group

New town resident looks to connect local parents for fun, support and shared resources.

Linda Moriarty moved to North Reading last October with her son and husband. The parks, the school system and the recreation department attracted her, but she was surprised to find that the town has no organized support group for parents.

So she is starting the North Reading Mom and Tots Meet-up Group.

“I think people are really looking for connection within the community. And I think kids are a good conduit (for this),” she said.

On April 20, the group will meet for the first time and begin creating playtime and playmates for kids and moms. Moriarty envisions regular “moms' nights out" in which the ladies meet for drinks and grownup conversation. Ideally members will collaborate to organize play dates for both kids and adults.

Her hope is that by connecting local families, they will build lasting relationships. Eventually she feels her group could speak up for town families to advocate for what they need.

“I want to create a sense of community. That’s my real objective,” she said. Adding later, “Possibly, down the road, we can work together to make things happen in town.”
