Snow Expected to Start This Afternoon

Snow is expected to start this afternoon and stretch into Thursday morning.

After a mostly snowless winter, North Reading may see up to 10 inches of the white stuff over the next 24 hours.

The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning from noon today until 6 p.m. Thursday and are predicting 6 to 10 inches of snow with a light coating of ice between this afternoon and Thursday morning.

Snow is expected to start between 1 and 3 p.m. this afternoon and become heavy at times by late afternoon. Snow will continue into Thursday morning, according to the NWS.

Poor visibility and slippery roads are expected for the Wednesday night and Thursday morning commutes.

If snow hits North Reading, the will have money to clear the roads after the Board of Selectmen issued a snow emergency this month.

The DPW has gone over the $175,000 snow and ice removal budget already, but the selectmen approved the emergency to allow the DPW to continue to spend on snow and ice removal.
