Strong Winds Caused 1160 RMLD Customers to Lose Power

The strong winds Tuesday night into Wednesday morning caused customers in Reading and North Reading to lose power.

Due to severe winds Tuesday night into Wednesday morning, there were several power outages in Reading and North Reading. About 1160 customers were affected in both towns.

Reading

According to Reading Municipal Light Department (RMLD), around 8:15 p.m. Tuesday, a tree limb fell on wires and blew a fuse on Colburn Road causing 30 customers to lose power. Those customers had their power restored by 9 p.m.

Around 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, tree limbs fell on wires causing eight customers to lose power briefly.

Then at 9:15 p.m., strong winds caused a tree to fall on Eaton Street. A large limb broke two poles, one on Salem Street and one on Eaton Street. About 1100 customers were affected, RMLD said. Half of those customer had power restored around 2:30 a.m. Wednesday and even more were restored by 4 a.m. About 40 of those customers remained without power until about 8 a.m. Wednesday.

At 11 p.m. Tuesday two customers on Scotland Road lost their power after a tree limb fell on the service wires to their homes. They had power back after about an hour and 45 minutes. 

North Reading

There weren't any large outages in North Reading, RMLD said, however some customers were affected by the strong winds. A down tree cut power from a house on Lowell Road. RMLD disconnected the line for safety, but an electrician is needed for further repairs.

Another large tree fell on wires on Park Street causing a fuse to blow and 12 customers were affected, but had their power back by 11:17 p.m. Tuesday.

About 1160 customers were affected in both towns, RMLD said.
