North Reading Girls Softball (NRGS) holds its 2013 Registration in the North Reading Library’s Activity Room on Saturday, January 12th from 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM and Thursday, January 17th from 6:00 PM – 9:00 PM. We encourage all girls, grades Pre-K thru 9, who are interested in learning and playing this exciting game, to register now for the upcoming spring season. Please be sure to watch the Transcript and the NRGS website, www.northreadingsoftball.com, for all details concerning the upcoming season.

NRGS is dedicated to promoting the positive aspects of amateur girls’ softball. At all levels, emphasis is placed on the development of good, sound, softball skills without sacrificing the enjoyment of playing the game. The goals of NRGS are to ensure that softball is used as a tool to teach the girls softball fundamentals, help them build confidence and self-esteem, foster social interaction in a team setting, show the girls the responsibilities of being a good team player and promote good sportsmanship.

All in-town teams are grouped by grade level within five different divisions – U6 (Pre-K, K); U8 (1, 2); U10 (3, 4); U12 (5, 6); U14 (7, 8, 9).

Due to the success of last year’s season, the North Reading Hornets U14 teams will participate in the 2013 Minuteman Softball League. The Minuteman Softball League is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting all of the same positive aspects of amateur softball. Participating in this league gives our 7th, 8th and 9th graders the opportunity to play softball against other neighboring towns, such as Wilmington, Woburn, Stoneham and Lexington.

In order to promote and enhance player development, NRGS will be sponsoring various clinics throughout the spring months that focus on pitching, catching, throwing, fielding and hitting. In addition, coaching clinics will be scheduled to emphasize softball fundamentals, various skills and drills to help run productive practices and most of all how to keep the games fun.

Finally, we would like to thank all of the players, parents and sponsors for your cooperation and participation in North Reading Girls Softball and look forward to seeing you at registration as we begin this exciting 2013 season!
