Last Chance: Deadlines You Need to Know This Week

A scholarship deadline is approaching and spring programs are about to begin.

Welcome to Last Chance, a new feature that will provide a list of upcoming deadlines that you may want to know about.

We’ll feature the latest deadlines to take a class, join a bus trip to Foxwoods or register to vote.

Here is a list of important dates that Reading and North Reading residents will want to know this week.

Reading

Scholarship

Applications for the Penney Richards Scholarship are due May 1. The memorial fund was established by David and Penny Richards of North Reading, in memory of their daughter, Penney. She was killed in a motorcycle crash on November 19, 2009 at age 25. At the time of her death she was a medical assistant at Massachusetts General Hospital's North Shore Cancer Center in Danvers, and preparing to enter a radiation/oncology program to further her education.

Applications will be reviewed by a committee that includes business and health care industry professionals. The final determination of awards will be the decision of Mr. and Mrs. Richards, in conjunction with input from the application review committee. Applicants will be notified of their award by June 15, 2012.

Library Program

Nutrition and cooking teacher Anna Tourkakis is the author of Delicious Simplicity: Recipes for Today’s Busy Lifea cookbook stressing healthful, tasty easy-to-prepare meals. Anna will speak at  during their Coffee & More program series on Tuesday, April 10 at 10:00 a.m. and will prepare a recipe from her cookbook. Coffee and refreshements will be available at 9:30 a.m. Call the Library at 781-944-0840 for further information.

North Reading

Parks & Recreation 

Register for Adult Spring Floral Arranging, Thursday, April 5 from 6:30-8:00 p.m. at the . Participants will learn to arrange flowers and enjoy coffee, tea and dessert. The cost is $30.00.

Register for Adult Cake Decorating, Thursday, April 26 from 6:45-8:45 p.m. at the Recreation Center at Ipswich River Park. Bring a cake frosted white. Participants will be notified on shape/size of cake by email. Other supplies are included in the price of the class, $30. You have to be over 18 to participate.

Register for beginner/intermediate level adult Volleyball. This will be a six on six league. You must be over 18 to participate in the eight week program beginning Monday, April 2. Time: 7:30—9:30 p.m. The cost is $60.00 and the program will take place at the .

The opening day of spring/summer registration on Thursday, April 12. April Vacation programs will be released Monday, April 2.
