Welcome to The New World of E-Readers: The Library is Now Circulating E-Readers

Check out a Kindle or Nook at the Library!

Have you read an e-book?  If not, would you like to see what the experience is like?

You may now check out an e-reader from the library. Try out the Kindle, Nookcolor, or black and white Nook (the first edition). Titles on the Kindle include The Hunger Games and The Tiger’s Wife. Titles on the Nooks include, Tick Tock and I Remember Nothing. The Nookcolor includes picture books, with a read-aloud component. I would like to thank the Friends of the Library for purchasing the Kindle and black and white Nook. The Nookcolor was purchased with library gift funds.

To borrow an e-reader you must be at least 18-years-old and have a library card in good standing. You will also need a photo ID. The complete policy is available online.

Someone I know says she reads more often now that she has a Kindle. Many of you have e-readers or read books on your iPads or Droids. We would love to hear from you about your e-reading experience. What kind of e-reader do you have and how do you like it? Have your reading habits changed since you started reading on an e-reader? What e-books are you reading now? I don’t yet own an e-reader, but I may buy one if I go on a long trip.

If you own an e-reader, you have the option of borrowing downloadable e-library (and audio) books through OverDrive. OverDrive titles are available for download to Nooks and will soon also be available for download to Kindles. E-books can also be downloaded to phones, iPods, iPads, and other tablets. The library will soon subscribe to OverDrive Advantage, which provides extra copies of popular titles to North Reading library card holders.

The Boston Public Library also offers OverDrive and issues electronic library cards to everyone in Massachusetts. Having a Boston Public Library e-card expands your reading choices, providing you with a larger selection of e and audiobooks.

The e-readers are waiting here for you. Please call 978-664-4942 and ask for the Reference Department for further information.
