Lengthy Reading Halloween Tradition to Continue This Year

Blinky the talking pumpkin has been going for 55 years strong.

If you've donned a Halloween costume and gone door-to-door in the area of Balsam Road sometime over the last half-century, there's a good chance you've met Blinky.

This year, the glowing, talking pumpkin will once again be greeting Trick or Treaters at 17 Balsam Road. The pumpkin isn't just a store-bough decoration. It interacts with each child who comes to the home.

This month will mark a milestone Halloween for the pumpkin, as it will be the 55th year the Tyminski family has organized the interactive decoration, according to an email from a Patch reader.

In case you haven't seen the pumpkin in action, watch the above video for a demonstration of what Blinky does.

With the calendar now officially turned to October, we want to know. What is your favorite Halloween tradition in Reading? Let us know in the comments section below.
