Another Strong Win for the North Reading Girls Basketball Team

The NR Girls Basketball Team topped Lowell Catholic Wednesday, with a score of 45-32.

The girls Varsity basketball team captured their sixth win of the season against the Lowell Catholic Crusaders Wednesday night.

Senior Lauren Hebert was injured, causing Coach DeSantis to look for players from the bench to step up. Hebert suffered a concussion during their last game against Lynnfield. The Hornets were looking to win for their teammate.

The Hornets started off strong with a 12-2 lead in the first few minutes. Throughout the game, the girls had many steals and key plays to maintain their lead and eventually win.

Junior Elise Makowski contributed to the team with 7 points. She had many offensive rebounds as well as strong defensive play.

Jenn Castro and Nicole Eisenhaure played strong minutes off the bench for the Hornets. Both contributed to many assists offensively and aggressive defensive play.

The Hornets have a large group of talent this year. Freshman Jess Finnegan played in the fourth quarter, earning her first Varsity point at the foul line.

The Hornets have been a strong defensive team this season. They continue to prove their ability to crash the boards and fight for control and possession of the ball. They held their opponent to under 40 points, a goal for every game.

The Hornets are now 6-2 this season. They are one game closer to earning a state tournament spot, needing 4 more wins in 10 games.

Their next game is against Manchester Essex at home on Monday, January 9 at 7 p.m.
