North Reading Girls Top Rival Lynnfield

The girls Varsity basketball team beat Lynnfield 42-40 on Tuesday night.

The girls Varsity basketball team beat Lynnfield on Tuesday night, with a score of 42-40 in a close-matched game.

Lynnfield started off with a 12-2 lead in the first few minutes. The Hornets fought back to an 18-17 deficit at halftime, after junior Alicia McCauley hit a buzzer beater.

Senior Captain Lauren Hebert had another fantastic game, continuing to prove her strengths and ability to handle the ball up the court against a strong Pioneer defense. She scored 14 points.

Junior Elise Makowski scored 10 points and continues to become an offensive threat for the Hornets this season.

Sophomore Morgan Maiola totaled 10 points, also contributing to the team on defense.

The Hornets were able to become accustomed to the Pioneers' multiple defenses. It took some time, but things started to come together towards the end of the first half. Coach Hank DeSantis pushes his team to start the game with intensity.

Their record is 5-2 so far this season.
