Veterans Day Parade
Many people confuse Memorial Day and Veterans Day; let’s do a fact-check.
Memorial Day is observed on the last Monday of May and although considered a “Holiday” should be a time to reflect on the sacrifices of the many thousands who died in battle or of wounds received while defending our nation. A visit to a cemetery, there to place a flag or a flower ensures the memory of these warriors remains alive, never to be forgotten. March with them in memory, not gala parades.
Veterans Day is celebrated on November 11, the day set aside to thank and honor all those who served honorably in the military - in wartime or peacetime. Veterans Day is largely intended to thank living veterans for their service, to acknowledge that their contributions to our national security are appreciated, and to underscore the fact that all those who served - not only those who died - have sacrificed in performance of their duty.
