Mother and Daughter Sentenced In Death of Tewksbury Family's Kin

Teen who was driving the car that killed Margaret Catyb avoids jail time in plea deal.

The Florida mother and daughter held responsible for the death of a Billerica woman last spring have both agreed to plea deals in the case.

Margaret Catyb, 77, The Nissan Altima she was a passenger in was struck by a Dodge Durango driven by a 15-year-old with a learner's permit and no adult with her. The Durango had run a stop sign.

Margaret Catyb's son, Thomas Catyb, lives in Tewksbury with his family.

The teen, Brianna Henderson, pled no contest to failure to obtain a Florida driver's license, violation of learner's permit requirements and failure to yield right of way at a stop sign, according to an article published by the Lowell Sun.

Henderson was sentenced to six months probation, must perform 75 hours of community service, write a letter of apology to the Catyb family and write a 1,000-word paper on the impact of driving carelessly, according to the article.

Henderson's mother, Apryl Tucker, 37, pled guilty to allowing an unlicensed driver to use her car and was sentenced to 60 days in jail, 40 of which was suspended, six months probation and community service.

Thomas Catyb declined comment on the plea deals. He did, however, off his thanks to Florida authorities.

"I would like to thank the Florida law enforcement, Attorney General, and District Attorney's offices for following up on this, giving us updates and allowing the family to comment at the proceeding, as well as following this to its conclusion," he said.
