Police Field Calls for Vulgar Santa and Rash of Car Breaks

The following is a look at some of the calls handled by the North Reading Police Department from Friday, December 21, through Thursday, December 27. The information is open to the public.

Friday, December 21

3:38 a.m.: At Ipswich River Park on Central Street, an officer reported finding a dedicated park bench vandalized. The bench was tipped over inside of the park area located near the small circle closest to the river.

10:53 a.m.: The fire alarm at the high school was reported as going off by the Fire Department. A 14-year-old student was summonsed on charges of pulling a false fire alarm and school disturbance.

2:00 p.m.: A resident walking into the station was upset that the Post Office was not flying the United States flag at half staff as directed by the President. The resident wanted her complaint logged.

5:07 p.m.: On Gordon Road, a homeowner reported that someone entered his property today and took his American flag off the front of his house. He claims this was not from the wind as the entire pole is gone as well.

11:49 p.m.: At The Great American Tavern on Main Street, an employee called to report a patron in the parking lot threatening to shoot people and blow up the restaurant. Police were unable to locate the person.

Saturday, December 22

2:08 a.m. On Park Street, a caller reported two males in the area possibly attempting to enter vehicles. At 9:38 a.m., a resident on Southwick Road reported that she discovered her GPS, checkbook and other valuables had been stolen from her car. Numerous residents on Southwick reported motor vehicle break ins. An officer reported that a wallet and hand bag were located in the area of Southwick and Linwood.

1:28 p.m.: A walk in to the station reported that there is a vulgar lawn decoration on Park Street with Santa urinating that he wished to be removed. The owner was contacted and agreed without issue to take the item down this afternoon. This is the second time in two years this has happened.

Sunday, December 23

4:16 p.m.: A caller on Kristyn Lane reported that her vehicle was entered sometime over the weekend. A GPS, Dell laptop, and iPhone were taken.

Monday, December 24, 2012

7:36 p.m.: A lot of noise in the background was heard before a 911 hang up. On call back, police spoke with a male party who stated they were having a small New Year’s party. He was reminded that it was Christmas Eve.

Tuesday, December 25

12:57 a.m.: A caller reported that she was assaulted by a man who since left the area. After attempting to locate the party throughout the morning, police arrested Robert S. Miele, 49, of 20 Ridgeway Road, North Reading, for assault and battery.

12:01 p.m.: Police received a call from a woman who said that while buying brake pads at Auto Zone, an employee offered to install them for her. She reported that Hyannis Police called her and stated that her vehicle was abandoned on the beach and had to be towed before the tide took it away.

Wednesday, December 26

12:30 p.m.: A Southwick Road resident called to report that his wife’s vehicle was broken into, he believes last night. All that appeared to be missing was a GPS.

11:25 a.m.: A Burditt Road caller reported that a tree fell in the area of Park Street and wires are down. Reading Light is on scene. A vehicle was reportedly damaged by the downed tree.
