Police Log: Kids Do Strange Things, Including Yell Profanities on Street Corners

Notable entries from the Tuesday, July 19 police log.

1:17 a.m. An officer spoke to two men looking in the windows of a building at the intersection of Main Street and Green Street. Both men said they were interested in opening a pizza shop.

1:36 a.m. An officer responded to a report of a house alarm sounding on Chute Street. The homeowner reported that she had set the alarm off by accident and had since silenced it. In the process, though, her dog escaped.

7:10 a.m. A Prescott Street resident reported spotting an injured turkey in his yard. An officer responded to the scene and found the turkey. It appeared to have an injured foot, the officer said, but it had also moved off into the woods.

10:09 a.m. An officer responded to a report of an elderly bicyclist who appeared to be injured. The woman told the officer that she had fallen, but did not want medical treatment.

11:02 a.m. The animal control officer responded to a cat that had been struck and killed by a vehicle on Haverhill Street.

12:06 p.m. The fire department responded to an alarm at the Old South Church on Salem Street.

12:25 p.m. An officer issued a citation to Rodrigo Mendonca, 27, of Somerville, charging him with driving without a license.

12:52 p.m. An officer responded to a report of a youth pushing a motor vehicle near the intersection of Main Street and Washington Street while a younger youth steered. The officer found nothing unusual in the area.

3:04 p.m. A D Street resident reported a sick squirrel in the street near the intersection of Libby Avenue and B Street. An officer responded to the scene, but was unable to destroy the animal due to a large amount of children in the area.

3:22 p.m. An officer responded to a report of a loose yellow lab that had been in the area of Landers Road and Van Norden Road “all day.” The officer was unable to locate the animal.

3:30 p.m. A Pierce Street resident reported that someone in New York was attempting to open a bank account using the resident’s social security number. An officer gave the resident a pamphlet about identity theft.

4:21 p.m. An officer responded to a three-vehicle collision near the intersection of Salem Street and Harrison Street. As a result of the accident, the fire department took one person to Winchester Hospital.

4:33 p.m. An officer assisted an Andover resident and a Salem resident exchange paperwork following a minor two-vehicle accident near the REI on Salem Street.

5:04 p.m. A Summit Drive resident reported that someone stole the hood ornament off of his Mercedes.

6:30 p.m. The fire department responded to a false alarm at a Sunnyside Avenue residence.

8:03 p.m. An Archstone Circle resident reported a smell of gas inside of her apartment. The fire department checked the apartment and detected no gas in the air.

8:08 p.m. A Pasture Road resident reported a group of youths yelling profanities near the intersection of Fairchild Drive and Main Street. An officer advised the youths of the complaint, and they agreed to keep it down.

9:11 p.m. The fire department assisted a Curtis Street resident who had gotten locked out of his home.
