Police Log: Police Notch Three Drug Arrests

Wednesday, Feb. 16

5:34 a.m. An officer relayed a message about the death of a loved one to an Audobon Road resident.

9:52 a.m. Police responded to a report of an open door at 80 Main Street. An officer found wire bundled on the floor as if someone were attempting to gut the building. Police notified the building’s owner.

10:43 a.m. Police issued a citation to Ronaldo D. Soares, 42, of Everett, charging him with driving without a license.

12:56 p.m. A Somerville driver reported that she was sideswiped by a garbage truck while driving near Killam Elementary School.

4:50 p.m. Police assisted a driver on Haven Street who reported that her key and brakes wouldn’t work. The vehicle started after an officer arrived. The officer attributed the problem to “operator error.”

6:25 p.m. A Putnam Road resident reported that a man with a “thick Middle Eastern accent” tried to get her to tell him her Social Security number. The resident did not provide that information to the caller.

6:38 p.m. Police issued a citation to Jonathan Carvalho, 22, of Malden charging him with driving without a license in an unregistered vehicle.

8:35 p.m. A Puritan Road resident reported that she had been receiving calls from an unknown number every hour on the hour. She was concerned due to the recent break-ins in town.

9:53 p.m. A Line Road resident reported spotting a man in dark clothes and a hoodie checking doors at Reading Memorial High School. Police discovered that the suspicious man worked at the school.

Thursday, Feb. 17

6:30 a.m. An anonymous caller reported seeing a male jogger in his mid thirties running barefoot near the intersection of Hopkins Street and Gazebo Circle. Police checked the area, but were unable to locate the jogger.

8:10 a.m. An employee at Cumberland Farms reported that a driver left the gas station with the pump still attached to his car. The hose broke away from the pump, resulting in approximately $200 of damage, but no gas spilled. The employee later called back stating that the driver contact the store and offered to pay for the damage.

10:17 a.m. A Woodward Avenue Resident reported that her German Shepherd ran away near Summer Avenue. The dog was located shortly afterward.

11:43 a.m. An officer issued a citation to Aurelio Robles, 30, of Lynn charging him with driving without a license.

11:56 a.m. Police responded to a report of two men who looked “messed up,” possibly on drugs, asking people for money at the Gulf station at 85 Main Street. An officer spoke with both men and found the situation to be fine.

12:05 p.m. Police responded to the Pizza World on Main Street to lend domestic assistance.

2:14 p.m. A Grove Street man reported that he was receiving harassing phone calls.

2:18 p.m. A Shackford Road resident complained of being harassed by a private investigator. Police contacted the investigator and informed him that the resident did not wish to be contacted any further.

2:18 p.m. A resident reported that she believed that a plastic sheet hanging from an electrical wire near the intersection of King Street and Prospect Street had been left there by a construction company who refused to take it down. Police notified the Reading Municipal Light Department. 

2:25 p.m. A North Reading resident reported that someone struck her vehicle while she was parked at the Home Depot on Walkers Brook Drive, then left the premises.

2:50 p.m. A John Street resident turned in a small bag of shotgun shells and .22 caliber rounds for disposal.

4:50 p.m. A Pearl Street resident reported seeing youths possibly smoking marijuana in the Forest Glen Cemetery. Police found the area clear.

5:18 p.m. Police arrested Donald Bates Jr., 27, of Reading and Mallory McKenzie, 22, of Reading and charged both with possession of drugs with the intent to distribute them.

8:52 p.m. Police arrested Terrence Jones, 20, of Reading and charged him with possession of a class C substance, possession of liquor while under the age of 21 and speeding.

11:25 p.m. An officer spoke to a suspicious man walking in the Reading Municipal Light Department on Ash Street. The man reported he was talking on his cell phone.
