Police Log: Reading Man Arrested, Charged With Drunk Driving and Child Endangerment

Notable entries from the Friday, Aug. 5 police log.

2:20 a.m. A Lee Street resident reported that parts of her home had lost electricity. Dispatch forwarded her complaint to the Reading Municipal Light Department.

5:33 a.m. An anonymous caller reported seeing a man loudly rummaging through trash near the intersection of Lowell Street and Puritan Road. An officer checked the area and found nothing unusual.

8:55 a.m. A Franklin Street resident reported that someone tore down Boy Scout signs that were posted in the Town Forest. Dispatch forwarded the notice to the Department of Public Works.

9:15 a.m. Following a traffic stop on Salem Street, police arrested Kenneth Nelson, 50, of Nahant and charged him with driving without a license in an unregistered, uninsured vehicle with the wrong license plates attached to it.

12:00 p.m. An Archstone Circle resident reported finding a lost license plate near the intersection of Franklin Street and Collins Avenue. An officer returned the plate to its owner.

2:15 p.m. A Lilah Lane resident reported that her 10-year-old son had wandered away with his dog and bicycle on Strout Avenue. The boy was located six minutes later.

3:32 p.m. Following a traffic stop near the intersection of Haven Street and Ash Street, an officer arrested Fransisco Rodriguez, 39, of Lynn and charged him with driving with a suspended license and giving a false name and address to officers. He was also cited with driving a vehicle with a broken windshield and was later released on $290 bail.

3:58 p.m. An officer responded to a report of an injured turkey on a Main Street sidewalk. The officer determined that the turkey was not hurt.

5:23 p.m. An officer responded to a two-vehicle collision between a Saugus driver and a Woburn driver.

5:59 p.m. An officer responded to a two-vehicle collision between a Lawrence driver and a Reading driver near the intersection of Main Street and Franklin Street. Gray’s Towing took one of the vehicles from the scene.

6:36 p.m. The fire department responded to a report of downed wires on Salem Street.

6:37 p.m. A town employee reported that someone left a light on and a window open over the weekend at Coolidge Middle School.

10:03 p.m. Following a traffic stop near the intersection of Lowell Street and Linden Street, an officer arrested Kirk Bell, 40, of Reading. Police charged Bell with driving under the influence of alcohol, two charges of endangering a child while under the influence of alcohol and one count of violating the marked lanes on the road. The children’s mother picked them up at the police station and Bell was held on $540 bail.

10:54 p.m. A Harrison Street resident reported that someone had broken into his home. A detective spoke with the man’s neighbors, who reported that they hadn’t seen anything unusual.
