Police Log: Wakefield Street Home Forcibly Entered, Ransacked

Notable entries from the Saturday, July 30 police log.

3:28 a.m. Following a short investigation, police arrested Catherine, Laskey, 27, of Reading and charged her with receiving stolen property. A Lakeview Avenue resident reported that a white male in his 20s broke into her car and stole some of her belongings. An officer checking the area stopped Laskey for questioning and found her in possession of belongings that matched the description given by the caller. Laskey was later released on $140 bail.

8:30 a.m. An officer issued a citation to Devon Hogan, 23, of Wakefield charging him with leaving the scene of an accident involving property damage. The officer had earlier come upon car grill work that had been left behind following a collision with a guard rail near 197 Haverhill Street.

8:54 a.m. An Evergreen Road resident told police that he was concerned about a pack of coyotes living near his back yard. Police forwarded his concerns to environmental police.

9:05 a.m. A Wakefield Street resident reported that someone broke into her home at some point during the night.

9:31 a.m. A Milepost Road resident reported that someone had broken into a nearby home. An officer checked the home and found it secure and empty.

2:05 p.m. A Belmont Street resident reported that a coyote in her back yard refused to leave. The animal departed before an officer arrived.

4:38 p.m. A Portsmouth, N.H. resident reported that someone stole a laptop from the back porch of a Woburn Street residence. The caller called back an hour later to report that he had found the computer.

4:50 p.m. Detectives visited the Wakefield Street home reported as broken into earlier. Detectives found that the front door had been smashed in. Interior door frames had also been damaged and closets and bureaus had been raided. Police were unable to determine at the time what had been stolen because the family was away on vacation.

7:23 p.m. A caller reported that she saw a man walking with a sword down the street near the intersection of Fanklin Street and Main Street. An officer was unable to locate the man.

9:18 p.m. An Old Farm Road resident reported that he came home to find his back door open. An officer responded to the scene, and the man found that he apparently left the door open himself.

9:33 p.m. A Haven Street resident reported a large group of youths in the area, and that one of the youths had thrown a bottle. An officer checked the area, and was unable to find the youths.

9:44 p.m. An officer responded to a report of a man passed out on the sidewalk outside the Pizza World on Main Street. The officer sent the man on his way.

10:00 p.m. A Tamarack Road resident reported hearing loud bangs in the area. An officer checked the area and heard nothing unusual. The officer later responded for a second call reporting loud bangs, and was unable to hear any.

10:50 p.m. An officer issued a citation to Nelson Gelardi, 30, of North Reading, charging him with driving an uninsured vehicle with a revoked registration.
