Reading Police Cite Woburn Woman for Check Fraud

A sampling of calls handled by Reading Police Department in recent days.

The following information was compiled based on reports from the Reading Police Department and Woburn Police Department. An arrest does no indicate a conviction.

On Tuesday, Sept. 24, a man came to the Woburn Police Department lobby to report stolen checks.

The man said that on Tuesday, Sept. 17, his personal checks were inside the sock drawer of his Harlow Court home at 3:30 p.m., and when he returned to the room at 4 p.m. they were missing.

Upon making the discovery, the man went to Bank of America to report his checks stolen and cancel them. While doing so, he was told two checks had been written to a woman totaling $440. They were cashed at the Bank of America on Main Street in Reading on Wednesday, Sept. 18.

The resident gave police copies of two checks that he did write, and the handwriting was different than the two that were cashed in Reading. Also, the man told police that the suspect had access to his room at the time the checks went missing.

As a result of the incident a Harlow Court, Woburn, woman was summonsed by police. She was charged with forgery and larceny by check.
