Suspects in Custody After Chase, Trooper Injured

A trooper was injured during a chase Tuesday.

According to the Massachusetts State Police, a state trooper was struck in the arm by a suspect who fled after being stopped Tuesday morning. 

The car was initially pulled over on Route 93 North in Woburn around 5:35 a.m. The car sped away when the trooper stepped out of his cruiser and began walking toward the car, according to police.

Police pursued the car through Reading, North Reading and Andover, but were unable to stop the vehicle. The operator was driving a rental from Thrifty Rental Car in Lawrence and had one passenger, police said.

About 30 minutes later, Andover police located the vehicle on Route 28. The car fled again, but hit stop sticks and a tire deflation device in Lawrence, police said. Police continued to pursue the vehicle at low speeds in Lawrence before they were able to stop the vehicle and the two occupants were arrested on Willard Street by State and Lawrence Police. 
 
The names of the occupants, reasons for the initial stop, and additional information regarding the injury to the trooper is not yet available. Please check in with Patch for updates.
