UPDATE: Vehicle Crashes Into Main Street Nursing Home

UPDATE, 10:55 a.m.:
Although a small sports utility vehicle drove into a nursing home early Friday morning, the facility is operating normally today.

According to Carol Arnold, a spokeswoman for Wingate Nursing Home, the accident occurred around 6 a.m. when a driver and her adult son crashed into a section of the lobby.

"Fortunately, given the hour, there was no one in the area and no one was injured, including the driver and her passenger," said Arnold.

Arnold noted that Wingate has been in operation for over 30 years and never had an incident like Friday's.

"We are very thankful that no one was hurt," she said.

Plans for Friday include restructuring the lobby.

"Today, our construction team will rebuild the entrance and will develop plans to install barriers to prevent this from happening in the future," said Arnold. "As a U.S. News & World Report best skilled nursing facility, Wingate at Reading and Wingate Healthcare are committed to the safety of our residents and staff members."

None of the Wingate services will be affected and will remain on a normal schedule.
