Today is Monday, Jan. 23. Here are five things you should know.
1) Dismal. Use caution when driving this morning, as the forecast is calling for freezing drizzle with a chance of rain and patchy fog in the afternoon, according to Weather Underground. Temperatures are predicted to top out in the lower 40s, with a slight wind. The chance of precipitation is 50 percent. At night, there is a 90 percent chance of rain. The temperature will stay in the lower 40s.
2) Public budget hearing. The School Committee will hold a public hearing Monday night to discuss the proposed fiscal year 2013 budget. The meeting starts at 7:30 p.m. in the Superintendent’s Conference Room at Reading Memorial High.

3) Office Hours. State Representative Jim Dwyer (D-Woburn) will be holding office hours at the Reading Public Library on Monday, between 4:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. in the library conference room.
4) Sports. The Austin Prep boys hockey team is in action Monday, as they travel to Lawrence for a tough road test against Central Catholic—a Super 8 team last year—at Valley Forum. varsity ski team also has a meet today, facing Manchester Essex at Bradford Ski Area.

5) Willy won’t go. On this day, in 1920, the Dutch government says no to allied demands they extradite Wilhelm II, deposed Kaiser of Germany, who has been living in exile in the Netherlands since 1918. By November of 1918, things were looking bleak for the Central Powers. Faced with massive unrest on the home front, mutiny within the Imperial Navy and a stalemate on the battlefield, Kaiser Wilhelm II was informed that he would no longer enjoy the support of the German General Staff against his internal enemies—who were rapidly multiplying. Wilhelm II agreed to abdicate his throne on Nov. 9, 1918. Shortly after, the last of the powerful Hohenzollern monarchs traveled from Spa to Holland, never again to set foot on German soil.
