5 Things You Missed at Monday’s Selectmen Meeting

Here's a quick recap of news and notes.

Did you miss Monday’s Board of Selectmen meeting? Aside from the hearings on the e and the , here are five things to catch up on:

  1. Selectmen unanimously proclaimed March 6-10 Citizens Scholarship Foundation Dollars for Scholars Week. The Citizens Scholarship Foundation held a phone drive this week to raise money for scholarships that will help local students pay for college. In the past two years, the foundation has given out $57,000 in scholarships.
  2. The FA Project received a one-day license to hold a bowl-a-thon at on Main Street on April 9 from 7-11 p.m. to raise awareness and funds for those afflicted with Friedreich’s Ataxia, an inherited nervous-system disease. The event will be for those ages 21 and over. More information can be found at The FA Project website.
  3. The town has extended its drinking-water agreement with Andover through June, Town Administrator Greg Balukonis told selectmen. The previous contract has expired, and the town has submitted a proposal to Andover. The town has not received a response yet, Balukonis said.
  4. The town’s legal bills totaled $4,777 in January, Balukonis told selectmen. Of that amount, $3,150 were spent on labor-related matters, Balukonis said.
  5. April 19 is the date for the proposed fiscal year 2012 budget hearing, Balukonis told selectmen. May 2 will be the last date to vote on the budget recommendations, Balukonis said. The School Committee will hold its budget hearing April 11, and it also will hold a budget workshop March 31, Balukonis said. Board of Selectmen Chairman Robert Mauceri said the state revenue plan has not changed since January. The town also will have to monitor how closely the House of Representatives’ plan comes to the governor’s proposal, as well as the legislative action on the governor’s health care and municipal relief bills, Mauceri said.
