State Rep. Jason Lewis, a Democrat from Winchester, and Monica Medeiros, a Republican and alderman-at-large in Melrose, won their respective special state senate primaries Tuesday in the 5th Middlesex District.

Lewis announced his victory shortly before 9 p.m. Tuesday.

In the Democratic primary, Lewis earned more than 42 percent of the vote to defeat State Rep. Christopher Fallon, of Malden, and Anthony Guardia, an attorney from Wakefield who is the director of development at the non-profit HomeStart, which works to end and prevent homelessness.

Medeiros was unopposed in the Republican primary.

The 5th Middlesex District covers Malden, Melrose, Reading, Stoneham, Wakefield and precincts 1, 2, 3 and 8 in Winchester. Now U.S. Rep. Katherine Clark vacated the state senate seat, after winning now U.S. Sen. Ed Markey’s former congressional seat in a special election.

Lewis and Medeiros will face each other for the seat on Tuesday, April 1.

Lewis has served in the Massachusetts House for five years.

Representative Jason Lewis is against the Tens of thousands of registered voters who have signed petitions to put a gas tax indexing repeal measure on the November ballot, arguing against automatic tax triggers and asserting that lawmakers should have to vote each time the gas tax is raised. In addition, Lewis has proposed repeal of the Citizens United Decision, a US Supreme Court decision that stopped Criminal Felony charges against groups of 5 citizens who pooled their money to purchase a political advertisement against federal candidates running for office 30 days before the election. ----- Please low information voters beware!

Jim, Lewis is bought and paid for by radical progressives including advocates for illegal aliens, Service Employees International Union,Mass Teachers, environmental groups to name a few. But of more concern is the out of state campaign workers and supporters opposed to residents of the district and the Commonwealth. Re: Citizens United Lewis is a complete hypocrite; indicted by the volumes expensive well crafted glossy mailings touting his progressive credentials sent to residents of the district by his union masters.
