The Reading Symphony Orchestra presents "An All Star Pops" Concert

Reading, MA - “An All Star Pops” is the theme of the Reading Symphony Orchestra’s final concert for this season. This performance will be held on May 18, 2014 at 3:30 PM at the Parker Middle School Auditorium on 45 Temple St., Reading, MA. There is something for everyone as this concert will feature the hits from Classical to Contemporary music.

 

They Take Requests

The RSO asked their regular patrons and audience members to let them know about their favorite pieces of orchestral music and the feedback was very interesting. The audience recommendations included the music of Broadway as well as the waltzes of Strauss.  This year’s Pops program will include the best of these suggestions: Tales from the Vienna Woods (Strauss), Saint-Saens' Danse Macabre, Tchaikovsky’s Marche Miniature, Carousel Waltz (Rodgers), music from Les Miserables, selections from Evita, Summertime (Gershwin), Over the Rainbow (Arlen), Salute to the Big Apple, Copland’s Hoe Down, Bugler's Holiday (Anderson), Debussy’s Clair de Lune, Stars and Stripes Forever (Sousa).

 

Maestro’s Farewell

After 15 years at the helm, Music Director and Conductor Roland Vazquez is retiring from the RSO.  “An All Star Pops” will mark his final concert as the musical leader of the orchestra.  Reflecting on this milestone, Vazquez adds “While this was not an easy decision to make and I will sorely miss the RSO, it is also true that I leave with a great sense of pride and satisfaction.” He continues with “I am proud of the high quality of music-making that the orchestra and I have succeeded in presenting over the span of so many concerts and of such varied repertoire.”  Vazquez is only the seventh conductor of the RSO in its 80+ year existence. His passion for music and extensive professional background as a conductor, musician, musicologist, and teacher have enabled him to inspire almost an entire generation of RSO musicians and audiences alike. He will be greatly missed by all who wish him the best in his retirement.

Tickets for this concert are available at the door. Adult tickets are $15, Senior/Student tickets are $10, and children, 12 and under, are free.
