Reading School Officlal is Finalist for Wilmington Superintendent Job

According to Wilmington Apple, the possible replacement for Joanne Benton will come from either Chelmsford, Lawrence, or Reading.

Wilmington Public Schools will have a new leader in the near future. And after a Monday meeting, the community is one step closer to learning who that leader will be.

The Wilmington superintendent search committee met on Monday night, and according to updates provided by Wilmington Apple, the search is now down to three candidates and one of them is a current Reading Public Schools employee.

Michael LaCava, Mary Lou Bergeron and Mary DeLai have been named the three finalists to replace Benton before the 2014-14 school year, according to Wilmington Apple.

LaCava is currently the principal of Harrington Elementary School in Chelmsford, Bergeron is the Assistant Superintendent in Lawrence and DeLai is the Reading Assistant Superintendent of Finance & Administration.

According to Wilmington Apple, candidates will take part in site visits on April 8, 9 and 11, and will hold public interviews April 15-17. Following that portion of the process, a new superintendent will likely be named by the School Committee on April 17.

Benton announced her retirement last summer as her school career spanning 40 years will come to a close.
