Residents Invited to Pitch Naming Ideas for School Properties

The School Committee is accepting proposals for renaming various buildings, fields, or rooms around town.

Is there a piece of school property that you've always thought should be named after someone or something significant? Now's your time to share your ideas.

The Reading School Committee is accepting nominations for the naming of buildings, fields, structures, rooms or other school property. The nominations process is open from October 21 through November 18, with proposals likely to go before the School Committee on December 9.

In a form found on the school district's website, residents can offer a written explanation of why the area should be named a certain way.

According to the district, examples of what locations can be named after are:

  • A particular physical location
  • Geographical area
  • Distinguished local, state or national leader whose name will lend dignity and stature to the school
  • Outstanding educator associated with the school
  • Significant or pertinent event
