Reading Business Owners Open New Shop in Newtonville

Thanks to overwhelming success in Reading, two business owners are adding another store to their arsenal.

Business has been sweet since Kristin Cataldo and Karin DiNapoli opened Cupcake City in Reading two years ago. Now, the owners are hoping to find more of the same in their latest business venture.

Due to high demand in Reading, Cataldo and DiNapoli announced recently that they will be expanding with a second shop in Newtonville that will give cupcake fans a location closer to Boston.

“We were surprised to see how quickly the Reading business took off,” said DiNapoli. “We knew that once people in our community tasted our product, they would become happy customers that would frequent our business. What we didn't expect was how far out our customer base would stretch. Quickly we noticed that people were driving from places four and even five towns over to purchase our cupcakes. When these loyal patrons kept returning on a regular basis, we knew it was time to expand.”

DiNapoli said Cupcake City stands apart from its competition because their cupcakes are baked fresh daily, don’t include preservatives and are aesthetically pleasing as well. The business was recently featured in an episode of The Phantom Gourmet.

Despite how busy the shop has been, DiNapoli and Cataldo spend every day overseeing operations of the Reading shop and spending time with customers. Cupcake City also has a food truck that travels throughout the state and up to New Hampshire as well.

Both the Reading and Newtonville shops will be open Tuesday through Friday from 11 a.m.-6 p.m., Saturday from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. For more information on Cupcake City you can visit their website or follow them on Twitter.

“We are really looking forward to having a new store in Newtonville,” said DiNapoli. “We immediately loved the feeling we got on Walnut Street.  It's a small tight knit community similar to Reading. We felt at home there immediately. We are happy to be able to provide our customers with an additional location to conveniently service their needs.”
