North Reading Native Jimmy Vesey Helps USA Take Gold at World Junior Championship

Team USA beat Sweden for the gold medal in the IIHF World Junior Championship.

North Reading native Jimmy Vesey helped Team USA beat Sweden 3-1 in the International Ice Hockey Federation World Junior Championship to claim the gold medal, according to NESN.com.

Forward Jimmy Vesey is a Harvard student and was one of three ECAC Hockey players on Team USA, according to the Harvard Men's Ice Hockey page, GoCrimson.com. Team USA won the gold in Russia for the first time since 2010.

Vesey played in all of the tournament games for Team USA. He started as the 13th forward, but was moved up to the first line in the final three games, GoCrimson.com said. Throughout the event he had five points on a goal and four assists.

Vesey, son of former Bruin Jim Vesey, broke the single-season scoring record in the history of the Eastern Junior Hockey League and was drafted by the Nashville Predators last summer. According to Nesn.com, he "could have NHL glory in his future."
