Playoff Brackets Revealed for Rocket Teams

Four Reading High School teams learned their postseason assignments when the MIAA unveiled its playoff pairings over the weekend.

The Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association revealed its postseason brackets over the weekend, and Reading High School has four teams ready to begin play in the upcoming days.

Rockets Hockey Ready to Blast Into Super 8 Action

The Reading boys hockey team earned the No. 5 seed in the elite Super 8 tournament. As a result they'll take on Austin Prep in a best-of-three series that will reportedly begin on Sunday at Lowell's Tsongas Center.

Suiting up for Austin Prep, which is located in Reading, is local skater Brendan Leach, a senior defenseman.

After earning the No. 6 seed in Division 1, the girls hockey team snagged a preliminary round bye. The team will take on either No. 11 Acton-Boxboro or No. 22 Barnstable in the first round.

With a win, the Rockets would take on either No. 3 Westford Academy, No. 14 Watertown/Melrose, or No. 19 Arlington.

Expectations Sky High for Girls Basketball

After a 20-0 season, the team's second unbeaten campaign in a row, the Reading girls basketball team earned a bit of a break.

The Rockets snagged a first round bye in the North Division 2 bracket and will take on either Burlington or Lynn Classical in the quarterfinal round, scheduled for Sunday.

Reading is in search of a second straight state championship and is widely considered the hands down favorite to repeat, thanks in part to the mammoth efforts of senior Olivia Healy.

Boys Basketball Team on a 'Mission'

Following a strong regular season, the Reading boys basketball team grabbed the No. 9 seed in North Division 2. As a result, the Rockets will travel to face New Mission on Tuesday at 7 p.m.

With a victory, the team would likely face No. 1 Melrose in the quarterfinals, unless the top seed is upset by either No. 16 Arlington or No. 17 Tewksbury.
