Several Rocket Teams Sit Near Top of Middlesex League Standings

Reading High School teams are in the thick of the playoff race about midway through the season.

The fall sports season is approaching the home stretch, and about midway through the year, several Reading High School sports teams are making a playoff push.

Below is a look at the current standings, according to Boston.com.

Girls Swimming

The Lady Rockets are making a splash so far in the pool. Reading is 3-1, which is good for first place in the Middlesex League Liberty Division. The locals have toppled Stoneham, Burlington and Wakefield with their only loss to Chelmsford.

Football

A perennial title contender, the Rockets are 2-1 so far on the season after the most recent contest, a 13-3 victory Saturday in Winchester. The Rockets only loss of the year came two weeks ago to Arlington.

Boys Golf:

The Rockets are off to a good start on the links, sitting in first place with a 4-1 league record. Reading is just ahead of of Belmont, which boasts a 9-1 overall record compared to the Rockets' overall mark of 7-3.

Cross Country Track

Both of the Reading cross country teams are off to the same start to the season. The boys team is 2-1 in league play with a 3-1 overall record, just behind first place Lexington. The Lady Rockets, meanwhile, are off to a 3-1 overall start and 2-1 league mark that has them in second place behind Lexington.

Girls Volleyball

With a record of 6-5 overall, Reading finds itself in the middle of the pack in the Middlesex League Liberty Division. The Rockets are 5-4 in league play and sit behind Belmont, Lexington and first place Winchester in the standings.

Field Hockey

The Reading field hockey team is 4-3 overall and 1-2 in league play, which puts them behind Lexington, Belmont and Arlington in the Middlesex League Liberty Division. The locals won their first three contests before a three game losing skid that ended on Monday with a win in North Andover.

Boys Soccer

The Rockets are hoping to improve their place in the standings during the second half of the season. As of Tuesday, the team is 4-5-1 overall with a 1-3-1 Middlesex League record, ahead of just Woburn in the standings.

Girls Soccer

Reading's girls soccer team has sputtered a bit to date as well and hope for a big second half of the season. The Lady Rockets are 1-5-2 overall with a 0-3-2 league mark. Reading's only victory this year was in its season opener against Waltham, with ties coming against Belmont and Arlington.
