Third Graders Donate to Locks of Love

Locks of Love provides hairpieces to children suffering hair loss from medical conditions.

Earlier this week, Grace and Catherine Hattery, third graders at Wood End Elementary School, donated their hair to Locks of Love, a national nonprofit that provides hairpieces to disadvantaged children suffering from hair loss from various medical diagnosis like alopecia and from chemotherapy and radiation for cancer.

Kristine LaTouch and Julieanne Mauro of Salon Fabiano in Reading provided the haircuts and cut 11 inches off each of the girls.

When asked why they were donating their hair, Catherine and Grace said that they "Wanted to do something to help others" and specifically "wanted to honor some family members and special friends battling cancer."

Despite comments from their older brothers that the haircuts "look weird," they are enjoying the new styles and lighter feel for the summer.
