Playoff Football, Private Movie Screening, and Charity Wrapping

Here's a look at some exciting events happening in the coming days in Reading and beyond.

The weekend is here and there are plenty of things to do in Reading and the surrounding area in the upcoming days.

Playoff Football: Reading's quest for a North Division 2 title begins on Friday night with a home game against Cambridge Rindge and Latin. Kickoff comes at 7 p.m. and the winner will face either Waltham or North Andover in the semifinal round the following week.

Free Birds: The Young Women's League of Reading hosts a private showing of Free Birds on Saturday at 10 a.m. inside Showcase Cinemas in Woburn. Tickets cost $10 each, and money raised will go to Bringing Educators and Kids Exploratory Research. For information on purchasing tickets, visit the Patch event page.

Charity Wrapping: The Reading Lions Club is holding its third annual Operation Troop Support holiday gift wrapping event at 10 a.m. on Saturday at the Reading Senior Center on Pleasant Street. Operation Troop Support provides the gifts and wrapping supplies, and all that's needed is volunteers to help wrap the presents from 10 a.m.-12 p.m.

Julia Child: The Delvena Theatre Company presents Meet Julia Child on Sunday at 2 p.m., a performance that includes a replica of the icon on the set of The French Set. The public can attend the event at Longwood Place at 75 Pearl Street free of charge by calling Doug Warren at (781) 944-9200.
