The Board of Selectmen comprises of five members who are elected for a term of three years. The Board holds its regular meetings on Tuesdays at 7 p.m. in the Selectmen's Meeting Room at the Town Hall. The selectmen serve as the licensing board responsible for issuing and renewing licenses for alcohol establishments, restaurants and more, besides also serving as the road commissioners for the Town of Reading. Additionally, the Board appoints members to most of the Town's boards, committees and commissions. It also appoints the Town manager, Town accountant and the Town counsel.
