The keepers of the police memorial figure one law officer in the United States dies in the line of duty every 57 hours. For this year's ceremony, 321 names were added to that wall. Among them: Middlesex County Correction Officer James Callahan, Sr., who died in 1973 due to a heart attack after being assaulted by an inmate and Woburn Police Officer John P. Sergeant Chris Picco and Sergeant Kevin Brown had their badges pinned Tuesday evening.
Sergeant Chris Picco and Sergeant Kevin Brown had their badges pinned Tuesday evening at the Board of Selectmen meeting. The future of the police department looks very bright, Chief James Cormier said Tuesday evening before the badges were pinned on the sergeants. "What a proud moment this is," he said. Picco has been an officer for 17 years and Brown for 12. Picco had his badge pinned by his girlfriend, and Brown had his badge pinned on by his two children. Both had family and friends present. Both sergeants are experienced police officers, well respected, highly educated and have a lot of experience, Cormier said.
