Arrests At 12 a.m., a Washington Street resident reported hearing a gun shot. As a result of the call, Daniel Green, 28, of 5 Washington St. Apt. C9 was arrested at his home Sunday on charges of unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition, discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a building, improper storage of a firearm, disorderly conduct, disturbing the peace and unlawful possession of class B and C substances. Reading Resident Arrested on Charges of Discharging a Firearm

Daniel Green, 28, of 5 Washington St. Apt. C9 was arrested on seven charges after allegedly firing a gun Sunday.

According to Reading Police, Daniel Green, 28, of 5 Washington St. Apt. C9 was arrested Sunday on charges of unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition, discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a building, improper storage of a firearm, disorderly conduct, disturbing the peace and unlawful possession of class B and C substances.  Police responded to 5 Washington St. Apt. C9 at 12:10 a.m. on Sunday after a caller reported hearing gun shots. According to a recent release, a resident allegedly fired a gun inside the Washington Street apartment. No injuries were reported, police said. Green was arrested at the scene on seven charges and will be arraigned Monday in Woburn District Court.

Fire Warning Issued for Thursday

Winds are expected to pick up to at least 30 mph in the afternoon.

  The National Weather Service is warning of the potential for brush fires in the area Thursday afternoon and night. Counties across Eastern and Central Massachusetts and Rhode Island are under the fire warning. Winds are expected to pick up to at least 30 mph in the afternoon. The wind coupled with “low relative humidities” will cause the risk of fire, according to the NWS.

National Police Week 2013: Candles Raised for the Fallen

People from around the country take part in a candle-light vigil at the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial to honor the fallen including officers from Massachusetts.

More than 19,000 names of fallen law enforcement officers are etched into the walls of the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in Washington, DC -- and more are added every year. The keepers of the police memorial figure one law officer in the United States dies in the line of duty every 57 hours. For this year's ceremony, 321 names were added to that wall. Among them: Middlesex County Correction Officer James Callahan, Sr., who died in 1973 due to a heart attack after being assaulted by an inmate and Woburn Police Officer John P. Gibbons III, who was killed in the line of duty on May 4, 1999. Gibbons suffered a fatal heart attack after being kicked in the chest by a woman while responding to a disturbance call. Monday Human Trafficking Arrests 'A Great Day for Victims'

With the announcement that a Medford woman and Woburn man were arrested for running a prostitution ring, police said Monday was a major victory in shutting down the alleged pattern of "modern day slavery."

Law enforcement officials said Monday that a pair of human trafficking arrests were not only a major victory for police, but also the women at the center of the ring who are considered the victims of “modern day slavery.” During a Monday press conference at the Wilmington Police Department, Attorney General Martha Coakley announced that Xiu J. Chen, 32, of Medford, and Ronald Keplin, 57, of Woburn, will each face charges on one of trafficking of persons for sexual servitude, six counts of deriving support from prostitution and six counts of keeping a house of ill fame. “In this case we allege that these individuals ran a large scale criminal operation involving the sale and sexual exploitation of other human beings for their profit,” said …

Reading Business Used as a Front in Human Trafficking Enterprise

Attorney General Martha Coakley announced the arrest of two individuals in connection with a human trafficking enterprise spanning six area communities, including Reading.

A Medford resident and a Woburn resident have been arrested in connection with a human trafficking enterprise that spans the borders of several area communities including Reading, Attorney General Martha Coakley announced at a Monday press conference at the Wilmington Police Department. Xiu J. Chen, 32, of Medford, and Ronald Keplin, 57, of Woburn were arrested on May 13 and charged with one count each of trafficking of persons for sexual servitude, six counts each of deriving support from prostitution and six counts each of keeping a house of ill fame, according to Coakley.  Authorities allege the operation spanned multiple communities including Reading, Wilmington, Bedford, Billerica, Medford and Woburn.
