Saturday is Missing Children's Day. Take time to look at the photos of children still missing in our state.
According to the Department of Justice, every year hundreds of thousands of kids are reported missing across the country. Some run away, some are abducted. And many have never been found. Saturday is Missing Children's Day. Here is a partial list of children in Massachusetts who have gone missing in recent years. The following is an excerpt from the Reading Police Department log from Monday through Thursday. The information is open to the public. Arrests At 11:48 a.m. Tuesday, Nicholas S. Vlachos, 22, of 123 Pine Ridge Rd. was arrested on Pine Ridge Road on a warrant. At 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, Joseph S. Goodstal, 36, of 62 Belmont St. was arrested on charges of domestic assault and battery. At 11:29 a.m. Thursday, Carlos S. Serpa, 28, of 708 Broadway, Everett was arrested on Boyce Street on a warrant. At 5:58 p.m. Thursday, as the result of a motor vehicle stop on Lowell Street, Mateo Nolasco Lopez, 21, of 154 Lawton Ave., Lynn was arrested on charges of operating without a license and failure to operate a motor vehicle safely. The house passed legislation to treat most 17-year-olds as juvenile defenders. Is this a compassionate or dangerous change?
Massachusetts is currently one of only 11 states that tries 17-year-olds as adults. A bill passed this week by the state's House of Representatives would make these teenagers juvenile defenders, according to a report by 7News Boston. That will put the commonwealth in line with most other states, where adult court is reserved for individuals 18 and older. The bill still allows the state to try 17-year-olds as adults in serious cases, like murders. But proponents hope the change will reduce cases of rape in the state's prison system by keeping younger inmates away from older, stronger convicts. What do you think? Reading Police officers Mike Fitzgerald, Mike Lee and Matt Edson were deployed by the NEMLEC RRT (Rapid Response Team) last month to assist with security in Boston after the marathon bombings.
Reading Police Officers Mike Fitzgerald, Mike Lee and Matt Edson were honored at a Board of Selectmen meeting Tuesday night for assisting in Boston after the marathon bombings. Lee was unable to make it, but both Fitzgerald and Edson accepted their certificates with pride. The three Reading officers were deployed by the NEMLEC RRT (Rapid Response Team) after the marathon bombings to assist with security in Boston. They were also present in Watertown after the shoot out that killed Officer Sean Collier and bomber Tamerlan Tsarnev. Arrests At 12 a.m., a Washington Street resident reported hearing a gun shot. As a result of the call, Daniel Green, 28, of 5 Washington St. Apt. C9 was arrested at his home Sunday on charges of unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition, discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a building, improper storage of a firearm, disorderly conduct, disturbing the peace and unlawful possession of class B and C substances. Daniel Green, 28, of 5 Washington St. Apt. C9 was arrested on seven charges after allegedly firing a gun Sunday.
According to Reading Police, Daniel Green, 28, of 5 Washington St. Apt. C9 was arrested Sunday on charges of unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition, discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a building, improper storage of a firearm, disorderly conduct, disturbing the peace and unlawful possession of class B and C substances. Police responded to 5 Washington St. Apt. C9 at 12:10 a.m. on Sunday after a caller reported hearing gun shots. According to a recent release, a resident allegedly fired a gun inside the Washington Street apartment. No injuries were reported, police said. Green was arrested at the scene on seven charges and will be arraigned Monday in Woburn District Court.

Winds are expected to pick up to at least 30 mph in the afternoon.
The National Weather Service is warning of the potential for brush fires in the area Thursday afternoon and night. Counties across Eastern and Central Massachusetts and Rhode Island are under the fire warning. Winds are expected to pick up to at least 30 mph in the afternoon. The wind coupled with “low relative humidities” will cause the risk of fire, according to the NWS.
