Update 12/8/10, 1:45 p.m.: We have a winner! This one seemed to stump you all, which tells me I should use more internal photos in the future. This sculpture hangs on the wall in the tutoring area in the library's basement. Library staff said that this piece used to hang in what's now the first floor computer area, but it just didn't fit after the library redecorated. Check back on Monday for our next challenge. Original Article: Welcome to our weekly "What's This?" contest. This week, we bring you a photo of something inside a Reading building. The first reader that correctly identifies what building houses this sculpture will win a Patch reusable tote bag. On Wednesday, I will reveal both the answer and the winner. While I have your …

Update 12/1/10, 2:15 p.m.: We have winners—two of them! This contest did not make it to Wednesday morning. Reader Mary Beth McDonald chimed in Monday correctly identifying this building as the present-day Senior Center, and Denise Wyer correctly posted Tuesday that the building used to serve as Reading's Town Hall and engine house. Check back on Monday for our next challenge. Original Article: This week, we bring you a new twist on our "What's This?" contest. Instead of bringing you a close-up detail of a feature of a Reading location, we're showing you the whole location—as it appeared in postcard of Reading taken decades ago. And we have two prizes. Just like previous installments of the contest, you're job is to figure out where the …

Update, 11/24/10, 12:30 p.m.: We have a winner. With just a few hours until we closed entries, Lori Vinciguerra correctly identified this stone embellishment as the crest above Reading Cleaning and Tailoring. Check back on Monday for our next challenge. Original article: Welcome to our weekly "What's This?" contest. Take a look at the photo below. It's close up shot of one feature from a notable location in town. You're job is to figure out where the photo came from, and make your guess in the comments. The first reader that correctly idendities the business closest to this embellishment will win a Patch reusable tote bag. On Wednesday, I will reveal both the answer and the winner. While I have your attention, I'd like to remind you …

Update 10/20/10, noon: We have a winner! Stella Smeaton nailed this one shortly after the contest opened. The present-day business in the old photo is, in fact, Ristorante Pavarotti. Take a look at the below photos for comparison. This portion of the intersection of Main Street and Haven Street hasn't changed much since the broad distribution of color film. Check back on Monday for our next challenge. Original Article, 11/15/10: This week, we bring you a new twist on our "What's This?" contest. Instead of bringing you a close-up detail of a feature of a Reading location, we're showing you the whole location—as it appeared in a black and white photo taken decades ago. This photo comes to us courtesy of the Reading Public Library historical…

Update (11/10/2:30 p.m.): We have our winner. Lisa Letourneau correctly identified this as a window on the now-dormant Christian Science church on Lowell Street. While Lisa made the only correct guess in the comments, I did receive two more guesses by email. One placed the stained glass in Downtown under the sign for the Goodhearts Children's Shop on Main Street. The second placed this window on the Masonic Temple. Both good guesses. Check back on Monday for our next challenge. Update (11/9/10, 12:30 p.m.): So far, we don't have a single guess on where I took a picture of this stained glass. If you're interested in winning a Patch reusable tote bag, check our Facebook page for a clue. Original Article (11/8/10, 11 a.m.): Welcome to our …

Take a look at the photo below. It's an extreme closeup of a notable location in town. You're job is to figure out where the photo came from, and make your guess in the comments. The first reader that guesses correctly will win some Patch gear. On Wednesday, we will reveal both the answer and the winner. While I have your attention, I'd like to remind you that you can keep up with Reading Patch through both twitter and Facebook. I hope to see you there, and I hope to see your guesses in the comments.
