Editor's Notebook: Patch Celebrates its 100th Site Launch
Why this milestone makes me feel better about the news industry and America.
Today, Patch launched its 100th local news site. While the town of Morristown, N.J. doesn't mean a lot to me, this company reaching the triple-digit mark does – and here's why. I graduated with the generation of would-be reporters that felt doom creeping across our industry. The internet had eroded newspapers' revenue streams and flooded the world with amateur writers who called themselves bloggers. They did something similar to what we did, but they did it for free. As I approached graduation, I understood that the traditional path of the newspaper reporter had collapsed.
