The Hornets' boys hockey coach believes he has a quality team for the 2010-11 season.
The key word this season for the North Reading High School boys’ hockey team is improvement. Because despite preventing archrival Lynnfield from reaching the Division 2 North playoffs last year, the Hornets could not reach the playoffs either, finishing the season with a 7-11-2 record. This year, head coach John Giuliotti enters his second season at the helm and is looking for improvement from his team, especially considering that they now know his system. “Everything last year was new," Giuliotti said. "We had new coaches, a new practice rink, so this year there are less surprises, which is a comforting thing.” Giuliotti also takes comfort in the attitude and conditioning of his players so far. "It’s been a really good preseason and …

North Reading returns only five players with varsity experience, but two are 2009-10 Cape Ann League All-Stars.
Much like their male counterparts, the North Reading girls' basketball team is looking to take a blue-collar approach to a successful 2010-2011 season. While both Morrison and Hebert were Cape Ann League All-Stars last year and will likely provide most of the team's offensive punch this year, North Reading head coach Karla Sullivan hasn't determined who else might step up for the Hornets this…

While they are normally opponents, North Reading and Lynnfield high schools return their cooperative wrestling team for a 7th season.
Normally, Lynnfield and North Reading are mortal enemies when it comes to high school sports. But when it comes to wrestling, the two schools are hitting the mats as partners once again for the 2010-2011 Cape Ann League wrestling season. Last year the joint team performed well, finishing 16-7 in league meets and placing 10 wrestlers in the sectional tournament, as well as two wrestlers that went on to the state tournament. And despite losing 10 seniors this year, morale is still high, due in large part to the seventh year of what seems to be the now permanent cooperation between the two rivals. "There's good team morale and cohesiveness," said Lynnfield/North Reading wrestling coach Craig Stone. "The rivalry between the two schools aside, …
