Police reported that the test call reached just under 6,000 residents in about 13 minutes.
Last Friday the town conducted a CodeRED test call using the Town Wide Emergency Notification System. They sent out an All Call to registered residents and businesses. The call reached over 5,900 residents in under 13 minutes. According to North Reading Police, after the initial call, the system called all non-connected calls up to three times, which took over two hours. If you did not receive the test call, visit the North Reading Police Department website and click on the CodeRED logo on the right side of the homepage. Enter your contact information, phone numbers and email addresses. The following was submitted by the North Reading Police Department: The Town of North Reading has contracted with Emergency Communications Network to license its CodeRED high-speed notification solution. The CodeRED system provides North Reading Town officials the ability to quickly deliver messages to targeted areas or the entire Town of North Reading. Greg Balukonis, North Reading’s Town Administrator, stated that “the CodeRED system will be used for critical incidents and events where the timely notification of an effected population or geographic area of the Town of North Reading is essential or highly desirable.” Balukonis cautioned that such systems are only as good as the telephone number database supporting them. The system worked great! The first call took 13 minutes to call 5,978 residents, the second recall was launched at 12:35 taking 9 minutes to pick up an additional 298 residents and a final recall was launched at 12:44 taking 6 minutes to pick up an additional 120 residents.
