Great American Tavern Makes Changes to Please Local Residents

Great American Tavern addresses noise, parking, and lighting issues.

Great American Tavern will address local residents complaints by installing a shoebox light, fence, heavier curtain for their stage, and signs reminding patrons to respect the neighbors. After listening to resident complaints at a Board of Selectman meeting on May 17, the tavern decided to implement some changes. At last Tuesday's Community Planning Commission (CPC) meeting, board members discussed the proposed remedies for the establishment. In addition to the tavern's patrons making excessive noise, residents complained about parking issues and bright lights shining into nearby houses. The look of the building at the former Daniela’s site at 303 Main St. is unusual. Why was a building of this type constructed so close to the street? The economy, septic limitations and new smart growth combined to influence the aesthetics of The Village Shoppes of North Reading, the new development on the former Ristorante Daniela site at 303 Main St. The new 15,000-square foot building is set close to Main Street, with the parking at the rear. The building is set forward for two reasons, said Heidi Griffin, North Reading’s community planning administrator. Whenever I see an LLC behind a company name I think BEWARE" I can only go by my own experience on Central Street.The roof has been leaking. Hot water tank needed repairs (Hot water provided by one boiler) after 3 years use. Massive damming due to some idiot architect who laid the gutters out wrong. Nomination Papers for 2011 Election Now Available

May election will feature races for Board of Selectmen, School Committee, Community Planning Commission and town moderator.

Nomination papers for the annual town election on May 3 are available at the Town Clerk’s Office. According to the Town Clerk’s Office, the elected positions available for 2011 include one seat each on the Board of Selectmen, School Committee and Community Planning Commission, as well as the town moderator position. Interested candidates may pick up nomination papers at the Town Clerk’s Office. Candidates must obtain certified signatures for at least 50 registered voters who reside in North Reading. Candidates are urged to obtain more than the minimum number of signatures required, in case duplicate, illegible or ineligible signatures are not certifiable, according to the Town Clerk’s Office.
