Nationwide, gas prices were predicted to be lower this summer compared to the last three years, but that won't translate into savings at the pump this Memorial Day weekend, experts said. "Motorists this year are facing rising gas prices heading into the Memorial Day holiday," said Michael Green, a AAA spokesman, adding that Memorial Day 2013 would probably be the most expensive since 2011.  In past years, prices have declined heading into early summer as oil refineries produced more gasoline to meet expected summer driving demand. I see you post a lot, Brandon. You're not only quite partisan, but extremely uninformed. You simply swallow the line fed to you by the party you adhere to without any act of critical thinking. The majority of advances in green energy that have occurred during the Obama administration were initially started under Bush. Your last comment obviously is a critique of Solyndra. But of course, because …   more ›

Lawmakers Urge Action as Gas Prices Continue to Rise

Gas prices in Massachusetts rose for the 11th straight week, and some local legislators are calling for action.

With Massachusetts gas prices rising for the 11th consecutive week, several lawmakers are advocating measures—including tapping the Strategic Petroleum Reserve and limiting excessive oil speculation—to combat this trend. AAA Southern New England reported on Monday that self-serve gas prices rose another nickel, and now average $3.73 per gallon. The current price is 24 cents more than one month ago and 29 cents over this time last year. Prices at the pump in the Bay State are three cents below the national average. NSTAR: Natural Gas Customers Could See Price Reductions

NSTAR announced today that if a proposal is approved by the state, gas customers could see a 16 percent drop in heating prices by Feb. 1.

NSTAR Gas customers may see some relief in their winter heating costs. According to press release put out earlier this week by the utility company , NSTAR customer can expect a mid-winter price cut thanks to a "continued steady decline in natural gas prices." "NSTAR’s current supply price, which is already significantly less than last winter, will drop by 16 percent on February 1 if the company’s proposal is approved by the Massachusetts Department of Public Utilities," the release states. What this means for customers, NSTAR states, is that on average, the new lower supply price will save NSTAR customers who heat with natural gas about $15 a month compared with current rates and a total of about $30 a month compared to last winter. “Along…
