The Hornets were trounced by the Knights 13-3 yesterday.
North Reading fell 13-3 at the hands of North Andover Thursday afternoon. The Hornets fell down by three goals in the first two minutes and 17 seconds of the game. North Reading’s record fell under .500 with the loss. The Hornets are now 4-5 on the year. Kara D'Alelio, Chandler Knight, and Kat Mazzone were North Reading’s goal scorers. Emily Welch made four saves in net. The Hornets lost their fourth game in a row after starting the season 4-1. The four game losing streak includes defeats to Manchester Essex, Ipswich, Malden, and now the Knights. North Reading’s next game will be on Monday afternoon at 3:45 p.m. The Hornets host the Wildcats of Wilmington High School.

North Reading boys basketball team loses to an experienced Hamilton-Wenham squad, 60-51, on Tuesday night. Hornets need to win remaining two games to qualify for the postseason.
Both teams brought their game for Tuesday's Cape Ann League boys basketball match-up of the Hamilton-Wenham Regional High School Generals and the North Reading High School Hornets. The reigning CAL (Division 2) champion Generals clinched another league title by beating the Hornets, 60-51, at North Reading High School. But there was a big hole in the Generals' lineup without senior Pat Hendrickson, whose season ended Monday night with a torn ACL. Hendrickson suffered a knee injury during Monday's overtime win over Masconomet, and will have an MRI on Thursday to determine the extent of the damage, but the player said his doctor is "85 percent sure" the ACL was torn. Girls basketball team downs Hamilton-Wenham, 50-37, improve to 10-8 on the season.
The North Reading girls basketball team topped Hamilton-Wenham, 50-37, on the road Tuesday night, upping its record to 10-8 and qualifying for a state tournament berth. Lauren Hebert led all Hornets scorers with 17 points, while Kirsten Morrison added 16. Patch was there to capture some photos from the game.

The Hornet skaters had their 2010-11 home opener ruined by the Scarlet Knights of North Andover, falling 4-2 at Burbank Ice Arena in Reading on Thursday night. After falling behind 3-1, North Reading (0-2) ran out of time trying to catch up to a more experienced Knights squad. "I thought we came out slow and we paid the price," said North Reading coach John Giuliotti. "We're still the victim of a bunch of kids that are young." A phenomenal goal by Billy Sexton in the third period brought the Hornets within one, but Knights' sophomore Jake Silk was not to be denied on this occasion. The young winger figured in all four of North Andover's tallies as he netted a goal in the final minute to ice the game, capping a three-assist and one-goal …
