The winner of that game will face either No. 14 Sandwich or No. 15 Melrose in the first round of the tournament. The date and time of that contest have not yet …

Thanks to a pair of goals from North Reading resident Nolan Vesey, the Cougars snuck past top seed St. John's Prep, 2-1, and will play at TD Garden on Sunday.
Austin Prep's 'super' season will end on the biggest stage. Thanks to a 2-1 victory over top-seeded St. John's Prep on Wednesday night inside Lowell's Tsongas Center, the Austin Prep boys hockey team will play on Sunday in the Super 8 championship game on the ice of TD Garden. The Cougars previously knocked Reading High School out of the Super 8 in the opening round with a closely contested 2-0 sweet of the series. On Wednesday, North Reading resident Nolan Vesey was credited with both Cougar goals, including one on a strange bounce with 2:11 to play in the third period to put Austin Prep ahead for good. According to the Boston Herald, the play happened so quickly that not even Vesey knows how he managed the game-winning goal. “I couldn’t …

Reading pulled away late after nearly blowing a 16-point second half lead. With the win, the Rockets will play for the North Division 2 title on Saturday morning.
Wilmington High School head coach, and just about every other coach who's come across Olivia Healy for that matter, is thrilled to see the Reading High School senior leave the state after this season. That means Healy is doing something right. On Thursday night, she did just about everything right. Healy poured home 36 points to help the Rockets stave off a frantic Wildcat comeback. Reading pulled away late and earned a 63-51 victory in the North Division 2 semifinal. "I think the whole league is, the whole state is," said Keane with a laugh. "Once the ball gets in her hands, it's tough to tell where it's going. That's why she's a Division 1 player on the best team in the state." Keane's charges nearly erased a 16-point deficit, clawing …

The Rockets led by just four points at halftime but pulled away for a 62-40 victory over the Red Devils.
It took a two quarters of play. But the Reading High School girls basketball team finally found their postseason form. The undefeated No. 1 seed Rockets led upstart No. 8 seed Burlington by just four points at halftime of Sunday's North Division 2 quarterfinal game. Having not played in more than a week, the Rockets shook off the rust and found their form in the second half, cruising to a 62-40 victory. "It took us longer than I would have liked to get back in the swing of things," said head coach Kim Penney. "The third period was more like what we are capable of." Following the victory, Reading advanced to the semifinal round where they will face Wilmington in hopes of moving on to play for the sectional title. The tilt against the …

Congratulations to the Rockets. Although the score does not indicate a victory, our Rockets were victorious. They took a team that is favored to win the D-2 title to the final shot of the game. They never gave up and left all they had on the floor. Truly an inspiration to the community of Reading. Thanks Fellas! Leo DeSimone   more ›
