Police allege that Peter Dolan twice robbed the Tedeschi's in North Reading while armed with a knife.
Police have arrested a 29-year-old Billerica man in connected with two recent armed robberies at Tedeschi's Convenience Store in North Reading. Peter Dolan also faces charges stemming from an attempted robbery at a convenience store in Chelmsford, according to a press release from the North Reading Police Department. North Reading Police Detectives along with Chelmsford Police Detectives arrested Dolan on Christmas Eve without incident. After his arrest, Dolan was held at Chelmsford Police Headquarters on Christmas Day and arraigned on the Chelmsford charges on Wednesday, Dec. 26, according to the press release. According to police, the same suspect involved in a November robbery may have been the man who held up the store early Sunday morning.
State and local police searched the area around Tedeschi's Food Store after an overnight robbery that officers believe may be linked to a previous incident at the store. North Reading police received a call that the store had been held up at knifepoint at about 12:15 a.m. on Sunday. The involved party fled on foot and was believed to have left the area in a green colored sedan, possibly a Honda, before cruisers arrived. According to public safety transmissions, the suspect displayed a knife with a green handle before he left toward the rear of the store. The robber took an undisclosed amount of cash from the store on Sunday night.
A masked robber wielding a knife took cash from the Tedeschi's Food Store at 202 North St. in North Reading on Sunday night, according to a press release from the North Reading Police Department. The robbery occured just before 11 p.m., according to the release. An undisclosed amount of money was taken by the robber, who was described as a tall man, approximately 6 feet tall with large frame and wide shoulders. A K-9 from Billerica Police was called to the scene and assisted, police said in the release. No injuries were reported. The investigation remains open.

Residents voted in favor of the Civil Fingerprinting bylaw.
This is the first in a series of articles that will be posted about Town Meeting: North Reading residents voted in favor of the Civil Fingerprinting town bylaw at Fall Town Meeting Monday night. According to the warrant, the purpose of the article was to establish a local bylaw to enable the police department to do fingerprint based criminal history checks for those applying for positions such as a door-to-door sales person, livery driver and others. According to Police Chief Michael Murphy, fingerprint based background checks are accurate and thorough. Sergeant Romeo was promoted to provisional Lieutenant Detective last week.
Sergeant Thomas Romeo was recently promoted to Lieutenant Detective in the North Reading Police Department (NRPD). The position is a provisional-temporary appointment. After Romeo passes an exam in October, he will be considered for the permanent position. Romeo grew up in North Reading, graduated from North Reading High School and has a masters degree in criminal justice administration from Western New England College. He also served as an adjunct professor in criminal justice at Western New England College. Romeo, a North Reading resident, joined the NRPD in 1985.
