The Division 3 North champion North Reading Hornets received a police and fire escort through North Reading after their 3-2 win over Lynnfield Saturday.
The usual silence of North Reading was broken Saturday evening with the sound of police and fire sirens. There wasn't an emergency. In fact, there was a celebration. A police motorcycle and cruiser as well as a fire engine escorted the Division 3 North champion to North Reading High School after the Hornets beat Lynnfield 3-2. Despite controversy, the Hornets ended up on top in what was a see-saw battle in Lowell.
Bases loaded. Final at-bat. A hit could tie or win, an out ends the game. That's the dream of every little boy who picks up the bat and it was the scene at LeLacheur Park in Lowell on Saturday as the North Reading Hornets became 2012 Division 3 North Sectional baseball champions, defeating the Lynnfield Pioneers, 3-2. Lynnfield got the first run in the fourth, but North Reading came back in the sixth thanks to Dennis Rollfs coming home off a Colby Maiola single. The Pioneers quickly rebounded in the top of the seventh, but then controversy erupted …

Two teams go for spots in sectional finals.
To say that today’s North Reading boys lacrosse game is the biggest in its young history would be an understatement. The Hornets, which have been a team for less than a decade, will take on the top-seed and perennial power Dover-Sherborn tonight at 7 p.m. in Dover. A Hornet win would mean a berth in the Division 3 East title game Tuesday afternoon at Harvard Stadium. Led by their two super juniors, Cody Carbone and Eric Valenti, the chances seem high for the Hornets to spring the upset and earn the right to play on the biggest stage. The North Reading softball team has played Cinderella in the …
