Ryan Delaney shot a 77 at sectionals to secure a spot in the finals.
Ryan Delaney, a freshman on the Varsity golf team at North Reading High School, shot a 77 at the Division 3 North Sectionals last week to secure a spot at the State Finals. Delaney will be the only player to attend the finals Monday, Nov. 5. Delaney has been playing golf since he was seven-years-old, but became more serious about the sport when he was 10, he said. He is now on the high school Varisty golf team and takes lessons with Golf Pro Chris Carter at the Hillview Country Club. Currently, he practices five times per week at Hillview and most days during the summer. Delaney says he loves golf because it's a "sport I can beat my Dad at, and also because I can play three seasons out of the year." Shooting a 77 at sectionals last week …

The North Reading High School Varsity baseball team played Lynnfield Saturday morning and won 2-1. A two run double by pitcher Ryley Warnock in the bottom of the sixth inning gave North Reading all the runs they needed.

North Reading boys lacrosse beat Austin Prep Wednesday at North Reading High School.
The North Reading Hornets boys lacrosse team played Austin Prep Wednesday morning at North Reading High School. The Hornets beat Austin Prep 6-5 in overtime. Cody Carbone scored halfway through overtime to give North Reading a spirited win.

The girls Varsity basketball playoff game is postponed until Thursday.
The girls varsity basketball team will play in the Division 3 state playoffs Thursday. The game was originally scheduled for Wednesday, but has been postponed. North Reading will play St. Mary's in Lynn at 7 p.m. Thursday. The Hornets, with a record of 10-10 this season, are seeded ninth. They will play eighth-seeded St. Mary's with a record of 12-10. If they win the first game, the Hornets will play at Bedford.

Jimmy Vesey, son of former Bruin Jim Vesey, is two points away from breaking the Eastern Junior Hockey League scoring record.
High school Senior Jimmy Vesey, son of former Bruin Jim Vesey, is two goals away from breaking the single-season scoring record in the history of the Eastern Junior Hockey League. Vesey will attend Harvard University in the fall, and hopes to play professional hockey in the future. Vesey started skating when he was four-years-old, and began playing hockey when he was six. He now plays for the South Shore Kings of the Eastern Junior Hockey League out of the Foxboro Sports Center. He has scored 82 points this season, and will break the single-season scoring record with 84 points. The following was submitted by Cervizzi's Martial Arts: Resident Chris Cervizzi, son of Paul and Laura Cervizzi, recently received two high school football honors. Chris Cervizzi, a freshman at the Brooks School in North Andover, played offense and defense on the varsity football team. He had two, one hundred yard rushing games, and was a force on defense for Brooks. Chris Cervizzi was presented with Honorable Mention Recognition for the 2011 football season by the Independent School League Council. In addition, he was selected as a 2011 Eagle-Tribune Football All-Star as a freshman running back.
