Police Field Calls for Vulgar Santa and Rash of Car Breaks

The following is a look at some of the calls handled by the North Reading Police Department from Friday, December 21, through Thursday, December 27. The information is open to the public. Friday, December 21 3:38 a.m.: At Ipswich River Park on Central Street, an officer reported finding a dedicated park bench vandalized. The bench was tipped over inside of the park area located near the small circle closest to the river. 10:53 a.m.: The fire alarm at the high school was reported as going off by the Fire Department. A 14-year-old student was summonsed on charges of pulling a false fire alarm and school disturbance. 2:00 p.m.: A resident walking into the station was upset that the Post Office was not flying the United States flag at half …

The following is an excerpt from the Reading Police Department log from Friday, Oct. 5 through Thursday, Oct. 11. The information is open to the public. Arrests At 11:10 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 9, after a traffic stop, police arrested Rodrigo Silva, 32, of Everett, 21 Dowse St., on Walkers Brook Drive, at Home Depot and charged him with driving an uninsured vehicle with a revoked registration with a suspended license; on a Danvers warrant for a suspended license; and violating a town bylaw for possessing marijuana (less than one ounce). At 12:05 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 10, after a traffic stop, police arrested James J. Maloney, 24, of North Reading, 11 Mac Arthur Road, on a Reading warrant for driving with a suspended license. Between the stuff happening in town and the nosy know it all's, constantly commenting on this site, it is clear why Reading gets such a bad name these days. Mother-in-Law Arrested for Assaulting Daughter 12:27 p.m.—Police responded to a report of an assault at 39 Walnut St., in which, a 24-year-old Reading woman alleged she was assaulted by her mother-in-law. Maureen E. Hunt, 55, of Reading, was arrested for simple assault, and her daughter-in-law was granted an emergency restraining order. 11:09 a.m.—Police responded to a report of a dog possibly hit by a motor vehicle at Summit Drive and Hopkins Avenue. Mill Street Resident Reports Break-In 5:02 p.m.—A Mill Street resident reported she returned from work to find her home had been broken into and a $500 diamond ring, a 42-inch Sony flat screen TV and $100 in cash were missing. Police determined that entrance was gained through an unlocked bathroom window on the first floor and spoke with several neighbors, but no one reported seeing anything unusual. 2:04 a.m.—A complaint application was filed against a Reading woman after her car got a flat tire. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.   12:58 a.m.—Police investigated reports of a disabled vehicle parked the wrong way in a rotary on Salem Street. The vehicle was traced back to a Reading man, and police determined that no charges needed to be filed. The vehicle was towed from the scene. 8:56 a.m.—A dispute between a homeowner and a Reading-based contractor was mediated by police. The contractor stated he was never paid for work done at the property, while the resident claimed work was never finished.
